Daily Prep That Prevents Problems

This checklist is for RedBlue teams across HVAC, Electrical, Plumbing, and Sheet Metal working on Vancouver Island and throughout BC. The goal is simple: fewer surprises, fewer incidents, better quality.

Before You Leave the Shop

1) Confirm the plan

  • Scope, site address, contacts, access details

  • Required permits, shutdowns, and lockout expectations

2) Verify you have what you need

  • Tools, test equipment, consumables

  • PPE for the known hazards

  • Any special gear for confined spaces, heights, or hot work

3) Check for hazardous products

  • If you are bringing chemicals, make sure the SDS is accessible and the containers are labeled. (worksafebc.com)

Video is for training support. Always follow WorkSafeBC requirements and stricter site rules.

Vehicle and Equipment Checks

If you operate mobile equipment, inspection is required before it is first operated on a shift, and defects must be reported. (worksafebc.com)

Use a quick check:

  • Tires, lights, mirrors

  • Load securement

  • Ladders secured and in good condition

  • Fire extinguisher and first aid availability for the work context

  • Anything unsafe gets reported immediately

On Arrival at Site

1) Sign in and orient

  • Sign in per site rules

  • Identify muster point and first aid

  • Review site specific hazards

2) Do a quick hazard scan
If you see unsafe conditions, report them and do not proceed until hazards are controlled. BC rules require unsafe conditions be reported and corrected without delay. (worksafebc.com)

3) Confirm stop work triggers

  • Energized work concerns

  • Confined space concerns

  • Missing fall protection

  • Unclear gas isolation or ventilation

The Big Four: Quick Daily Checks

Lockout and isolation
If equipment must be locked out, energy isolating devices must be secured using locks and proper procedures. Combination locks cannot be used for lockout. (worksafebc.com)

Fall risk
If there is a risk of falling, fall protection is required. Follow RedBlue’s fall protection procedure and site rules. (worksafebc.com)

Confined spaces
If there is any chance the space qualifies, stop and follow the confined space procedure. Part 9 has specific requirements for controlling hazards and safe entry. (worksafebc.com)

Emergency readiness
Make sure you know the emergency procedure and who to contact. WorkSafeBC expects workers to be trained in emergency response procedures. (worksafebc.com)

End of Day Wrap

  • Clean up and restore site condition

  • Remove waste and hazards

  • Close out permits and sign-out

  • Report hazards, near misses, or issues while details are fresh
